The Air Jordan XI's tuxedo aspirations made it an icon, but the Air Jordan XI Low IE proved the design didn't need patent leather to work. During the 1996 season, Michael Jordan was photographed wearing a White/Gym Red colorway of the IE that turned heads but never made its way to the court.
