From Asphaltgold:

New Balance brings back a true Y2K deep cut with the 740. This model comes from the early 2000s fitness running catalog of Boston – an era of mesh uppers, segmented midsoles, and ABZORB cushioning – and has been reintroduced as part of the broader Y2K runner wave. With a structured upper and more overlays, the 740 is seen as the premium relative of the 530, bridging to the more modern 1906R. In the Pink / Granite colorway, a soft rose meets cool stone gray – a palette that captures the technical look of the 740. The open knit mesh sits airy, angular overlays and the molded TPU-N define the edges, while two-tone details set the tone. Reflective accents on the striped eyelet bands add extra play to the panel. A retro runner that translates the nostalgia of the 2000s into a fresh colorway while retaining the rugged charm of early running DNA.
