Since 1977, Sun Surf has been reproducing some of the rarest and most desirable Hawaiian shirts from the 1930s through to the 1950s. Drawing directly from original vintage garments, each piece is crafted in Japan with an uncompromising focus on authenticity, fabric and print reproduction.

This style revives a beautiful chrysanthemum pattern originally produced during the 1950s by the Cherry Blossom label. Rendered in a restrained, sophisticated colour palette, the design carries a quiet elegance, with bursts of floral detail spreading across the shirt like fireworks against a night sky.

Rather than reproducing the original rayon crepe fabric, Sun Surf have reimagined the pattern on a lightweight cotton-linen blend, giving it a crisp handle and breezy feel that's ideal for warmer weather. The artwork is applied using traditional discharge printing techniques, allowing the colours to sit naturally within the fabric while creating the subtle fading, depth and tonal variation seen on vintage originals.

It's another superb example of Sun Surf's ability to capture not just the artwork of a mid-century Hawaiian shirt, but the spirit of the era itself.
