After training as a painter and print maker, Castro Smith started a traditional apprenticeship with the Goldsmiths Company to study engraving. Using the ancient technique of ‘seal engraving’ Castro modernises his designs using European and Japanese influences. Inspired by history, myths and biology, he is obsessed with creatures and their creations.
Exclusive to DSM, this special collection focuses on the Japanese technique of seal engraving using black plating on 9k yellow gold. Each design celebrates Castro's hand drawn illustrations of animals and mythological worlds.
