When looking over the iconic Jordan silhouettes, it's not unfair to say that the Air Jordan 2 is often seen as the ugly duckling of the 'golden era' or Jordan design. The AJ1 remains one of the most iconic sneakers of all time; AJ3 is remembered for introducing visible air, elephant print and Tinker Hatfield to the franchise whilst the Jordan 2 is mostly considered an oddity. Not until the AJ9 do we really come across a Jordan of similar divisiveness and that's down to the fact MJ never played in them!
Jordan did play in the AJ2 though, and he played well. For some the Jordan 2 is an icon in its own way. The swoosh-less uppers, premium styling and foam midsole were all groundbreaking for their time – the OGs were even made in Italy!
Now Jordan brand pays tribute to this misunderstood legend from 1986 almost forty years since the initial release. This Varsity Royal flip on the OG brings an alternate reality to light. Using the same shade that featured on the Black/Royal Jordan 1, these make for a great "what if" release.
