Salomon says their Udara sandal/sneaker hybrid is inspired by the "free curves" of the Arve river—which runs between France and Switzerland. Whilst you can take what you want from that, it explains the amphibious ambitions of the style.
Open uppers are breathable, allowing both air and water to flow easily through. The heel is designed to be collapsible, allowing you to wear as a slip-on when preferred.
