adidas Melbourne x UP THERE - Footwear White/Dark Green-Off White

For our first project since joining the adidas Consortium family, the idea was simple—honour the city which helped us get here. The adidas City Series is held in the highest esteem and we wanted to see Melbourne join the likes of London, Dublin, Malmö, and München with an entry of its own.

The silhouette is born of a track spike from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, the midfoot 'biscuit' and suede collar lifted from the vintage gem. The colours too, are borrowed from the spike discovered during a trip to adidas' famed Herzo archive. The mesh is based on another vintage reference—early Rod Laver tennis shoes—an homage to Rod's impact on Melbourne itself.

The die-cut midsole is millimetre perfect, balancing the right low-profile stance whilst eeking-out every last bit of comfort. Internally we went the extra mile—a padded and leather-lined heel, along with a performance insole from the skate range.

The cherry on top? A foam tongue refined over multiple samples to replicate an Australian-made adidas ROME from our own archive. The label is a direct scan of the tongue on our vintage pair. The only tweak is "MADE BY UP THERE" script—deliberately worded to convey that we made this shoe for Melbourne.
