Magazine F – Issue 20: Tools

Magazine F is a food documentary magazine co-created by Magazine B and Baemin, which introduces one particular ingredient that has had a significant impact on people’s table.

Baemin has become a critical mover and shaker in South Korean contemporary food culture, and B provides a balanced view on brands through multi-layered stories. This collaboration brings together these two areas of expertise in F, which is hoped to become a record of essential ingredients and food culture of our time.

THIS ISSUE

Cooking tools are an essential part of a kitchen that controls and handles elements such as fire, water and time, as well as ingredients. As interest in food and cooking increases, cooking tools have also been developed to match the diversity of food culture, forming a topographical map. Even basic tools such as knives and pots, frying pans, and weighers are becoming more diverse, either subdivided according to their respective uses or combining two adjacent functions into one. In addition, traditional tools made of wood, stone, and cast iron are re-examined to satisfy not only their usefulness but also the aesthetic sense. In this way, cooking tools can be said to be a barometer of the kitchen, which contains changes not only in food culture, but also in interior, design, technology, and lifestyle.
